Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), a longtime bachelor, has announced that he is in a relationship with actress Rosario Dawson, best known for her roles in cancelled Marvel Netflix shows Daredevil and Luke Cage.
Booker told TMZ that Dawson is “one of the most amazing people in [his] life” when asked about the relationship.
“I think she would make an incredible, incredible First Lady. Think about this – the first Latina First Lady,” he said. “She is a First Lady.”
This marks the first time that Booker has personally revealed that Dawson is in fact his girlfriend. However, Dawson had previously confirmed alleged reports regarding the matter, and Booker did suggest last month that he was in a relationship with an individual whose name he wanted to keep secret.
The announcement came as a surprise to many, due to widespread but unconfirmed allegations that Booker was gay.
In the past, Booker has refused to deny these allegations, claiming it did not matter whether he was gay or not.
“People who think I’m gay, some part of me thinks it’s wonderful because I want to challenge people on their homophobia,” Booker told the Washington Post in 2013. “I love seeing on Twitter when someone says I’m gay, and I say, ‘So what does it matter if I am? So be it.'”
