Two sad days for America as last night another mass shooting occurred.

At least nine people have been killed and 16 wounded in a mass shooting in Dayton, in the US state of Ohio, according to police.

The incident in the early hours of Sunday came just hours after a mass shooting in El Paso, Texas.

Authorities responded quickly to the shooting, first reported at 1 a.m., and said police are regularly present in the crowded district popular with tourists and locals.

Police confirmed they killed the gunman at the scene within a minute of him opening fire.

Mayor Nan Whaley told reporters she was “amazed” by the quick response of the officers which she said prevented further deaths, but also stressed it would be a “very, very difficult time” for families of victims.

“As a mayor, this is a day that we all dread happening,” she said. “What’s very sad is I’ve got messages from mayors across the country – it’s sad that we’ve all gone through it.”

FBI agents were assisting in the investigation.

The Dayton Daily News said the shooting occurred at or near an establishment called Ned Peppers Bar.

The shooting in Dayton, a riverfront city of about 140,000 people in southwestern Ohio.
