A female Democratic strategist says has had enough of white males leading the Democratic party and wants them all to step aside and clear the way for female candidates.
Alexis Grenell appeared on CNN on Wednesday and said she wants Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Beto O’Rourke, and Joe Biden (who has not officially declared yet) to drop out of the presidential race.
“I voted proudly for Bernie in the 2016 Democratic primary, and defender him against charges of sexism,” Grenell wrote in her Daily Beast opinion column. “Now I can’t stand the sight of his name in my inbox proclaiming, ‘not me, us,’ if I’ll just chip in $3.”
Grenell was triggered because Sanders announced his campaign on the same day that Elizabeth Warren announced her plans for government subsidized childcare.
“Well it just sort of to me epitomized the whole problem,” Grenell explained.
“Literally we have this woman,” she continued, “who is a mother of two, releasing the most expansive plan for subsidized childcare in America, with some personal experience to inform it and the same day this guy does a canon ball into the news cycle and gets everybody else wet.
“And it’s all we can talk about and think about when there’s actually something substantive that’s meaningful and important to pay attention to,” she concluded, “and that’s the bigger problem with all these guys.”
“There’s sort of an implicit bias here that a woman can’t beat Trump,” she added.
“It’s unspoken, it’s unsaid,” Grenell continued, “but already they’ve raised millions of dollars more than the female candidates in the race who have this uphill battle, period, regardless of whether there are men in the race, to be taken seriously.”
Grenell said that a women holding positions in a male administration is like being “second banana” and that a woman being offered the VP spot is like being offered “second best.” Grenell pointed out that Geraldine Ferraro was the first Female Vice Presidential candidate and that “we have already been there and done that.”
Grenell agreed with the CNN host that the best candidate should be the nominee regardless of their sex, but that while males should put their resources behind women running for president.
