The former vice president, who is known for verbal gaffes, made the remarks to the Asian & Latino Coalition in Des Moines, Iowa, where he is on a four-day campaign swing for the Democratic presidential nomination.
In perhaps the biggest gaffe of his campaign so far, former Vice President Joe Biden asserted that “poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids,” while speaking in Iowa on Thursday.
“We should challenge students in these schools and have advanced placement programs in these schools,” Biden said. “We have this notion that somehow if you’re poor, you cannot do it. Poor kids are just as bright, just as talented, as white kids.” He quickly added, “Wealthy kids, black kids, Asian kids, no I really mean it, but think how we think about it.”

Biden, who famously directed supporters to a wrong number during last month’s debate — and recently misidentified the sites of recent mass shootings.
Biden was talking to donors at a fundraising event in San Diego Sunday evening when he spoke about the two shootings that occurred over the weekend. The former Vice President reportedly referred to the shootings as “the tragic events in Houston today and also in Michigan the day before,” according to a pool report.
The shootings occurred in El Paso Saturday and Ohio Sunday. Biden later corrected himself, the Washington Examiner reported.
Biden’s awkward behavior over the years is not limited to what he has said, but also how he acts. Several women have recently come forward to say he has made inappropriate physical contact with them, leaving them to feel uncomfortable.
