President Trump just reported that the U.S. Navy just shot down an Iranian aircraft, a drone that got within 1,000 yards of a Navy ship.
“The Boxer took defensive action against an Iranian drone, which had closed into a near distance, approximately 1000 yards, ignoring multiple calls to stand down threatening safety of ship and ship’s crew,” Trump told reporters at the White House according to CNBC.
He called on other countries to condemn Iran and protect their own ships.”
This comes on the heels of Iran’s seizure of an oil tanker earlier today, Via Reuters:
“The United States on Thursday demanded Iran immediately release a vessel it seized in the Gulf and a U.S. military commander in the region said the United States would work “aggressively” to ensure free passage of vessels through the vital waterway.
The Pentagon confirmed the ship shot down the drone, without specifying it was Iranian, while “conducting a planned inbound transit of the Strait of Hormuz,”

“The United States strongly condemns the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy’s continued harassment of vessels and interference with safe passage in and around the Strait of Hormuz,” a State Department spokesperson said in an email to Reuters.
“Iran must cease this illicit activity and release the reportedly seized crew and vessel immediately.”
