School Resource Officer Whose Job Was To Protect Kids, Arrested For Raping Children

Officer Mark A. Scheetz, 40, with the Kansas City Public Schools Police Department was arrested last week over horrifying allegations of child rape and other sex crimes against children, according to local reports.

The arrest was announced Wednesday in a news release from the Kansas Bureau of Investigations, which identified the officer as Mark A. Scheetz, a 30-year-old from Lansing.

Scheetz was arrested in Bonner Springs on suspicion of rape, aggravated criminal sodomy and aggravated indecent liberties with a child, the KBI said.

He had not been charged as of Thursday.

The crimes allegedly occurred while Scheetz was living in Norton County between 2013 and 2015, when he allegedly “engaged in sex acts with a minor, sent lewd photos to minors and used electronic devices to solicit sex with minors,” the KBI said.

Scheetz has been a school resource officer for a year and was assigned to F.L. Schlagle High School in the Kansas City, Kan., Public Schools district, according to the KBI. The school district has its own police department.

The Kansas City, Kansas, Public Schools system said Thursday that it has placed Scheetz on administrative leave pending the results of the investigation.

Before coming to Kansas City, Kan., Scheetz worked for the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office from 2016 to 2018.

Scheetz is currently being held in the Norton County jail. His status us unknown.
