Video: Homeowner Jailed for Calling Police on Squatter in Her Own House—Told to ‘Check Her Privilege’!

A Georgia homeowner found herself behind bars after calling the police to remove a squatter from her own property. Loletha Hale, the rightful owner of the house, was arrested for criminal trespass while the squatter stayed in her home.

In a shocking turn of events, a Clayton County Sheriff’s deputy admonished Hale, suggesting she “check her privilege” and empathize with the squatter.

“Just think of it from this perspective, though,” the deputy said. “Everybody isn’t as fortunate as you to have a bed. All the little things, a bed in their house, food in the kitchen.”

Hale described her harrowing night in jail, where she was forced to sleep on a concrete floor while the squatter remained in her home. “I spent the night on a mat in deplorable conditions while this woman, this squatter, slept in my house,” Hale lamented.

Adding insult to injury, the Clayton County Magistrate Court later ruled that the woman wasn’t a squatter because she was connected to a previously evicted tenant’s partner.

The story, which has sparked outrage online, highlights the growing frustrations of homeowners dealing with squatting laws and raises serious questions about property rights in America.
