Democrat Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson slammed Jussie Smollett and the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office for dropping all charges against Smollett.
Johnson said the city was owned an apology and that if anyone accused him of doing anything that circumvented his honor, integrity and reputation, he would want his day in court to clear his name.
Johnson pointed out that is was Jussie and his defense that said they wanted to lay all the evidence out in court with TV cameras.
Johnson said that he stands by his detective’s work and that if Jussie is innocent, he would clear his name in court.
Emanuel expressed even more anger than Johnson did, noting the damage that the decision to drop the charges will do to the city of Chicago.
Emanuel said it is a white wash of justice, the grand jury could not have been clearer.
Emanuel said that you cannot have, because of a person’s position, one set of rules apply to them and another set of rules apply to everybody else. He went on to compare it to the college admission rules are one way for some, but another for the rich and influential.
Emanuel continued for while talking about how dare Smollett continue to claim he is innocent and that it was a white-wash of justice that he walked away scot-free with no sense of accountability of th emoral and ethical wrong of his actions.
Emanuel questioned if Smollett had an decency in him for exploiting hate crime laws for personal gain.
