After The Latest Mass Shootings Walmart Remove Violent Video Game Displays

Following two shootings in Walmart stores in the past few weeks Walmart announced that they will remove advertising displays for violent video games.

The retailer told USA Today in a statement that the move was done out of respect for victims in the two shootings and did not represent a “long-term” policy for the company.

“We’ve taken this action out of respect for the incidents of the past week, and this action does not reflect a long-term change in our video game assortment,” spokeswoman Tara House told the newspaper.

Last Saturday, 22 people were killed at a Walmart store in El Paso, Texas, days after two Walmart managers were killed by a gunman described as a disgruntled worker in a store in Southaven, Mississippi.

On Thursday when a man with 100 rounds of ammunition and wearing body armor entered a Missouri Walmart. He was stopped by a good guy with a gun.

The video games industry rejected President Trump’s (and fellow Republicans’) suggestions that violent games are connected to violence and mass shootings, citing the large disparity of gun violence between the U.S. and other countries.
