Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the upstart Democratic Socialist who shocked the political world in the June primary when she defeated 10-term incumbent Rep. Joseph Crowley of New York, announced a “New Rule” on her Twitter account that bars supporters of the Trump tax cuts from speaking out about America’s healthcare system.
After all, she said, the money went to “freebies for people with yachts that have tiny yachts inside.”
But she did promise a lot of free stuff and reminded young Millennials to certain Bernie Sanders!
Ocasio-Cortez visited the set of Pod Save America, where she was asked a fairly simple softball question from her enthusiastic friends: how did she plan to pay for her wild expenditures?
Her answer: um, wut?
She stated:
I think it’s that same exact thing. It’s that we … they say, “How are you gonna pay for it?” as though they haven’t used these same ways to pay for unlimited wars, to pay for trillion-dollar tax cuts and tax cut extensions. They use these mechanisms to pay for these things all the time. They only want to know … it just seems like their pockets are only empty when we’re talking about education and investing in human capital in the United States: education, healthcare, housing, and investing in the middle class. All the sudden, there’s nothing left. All the sudden, the wealthiest nation in the world, we’re just totally scarce. We have complete scarcity when it comes to the things that are most important. And so for me, I think it belies a lack of moral priority and that’s unfortunate. I think that a lot of these folks, especially those perhaps on the Democratic side, they don’t even see it, you know?… I legitimately think that they start kind of buying into conservative talking points. They get dragged into their court all the time. And I think it is because there is this really myopic and also just misunderstanding of politics as this flat, two-dimensional left-right thing.

Well, when it comes to free stuff the socialists are the best but I wonder how can they give away so many free stuff and who’s gonna pay for it?
Ocasio-Cortez is a strange young woman. I find myself feeling sorrier for her than anger or antipathy. Someone like Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders you can rightfully despise because they’ve lived long enough to show a well documented and indisputable track record of corruption, hypocrisy, deceitfulness, and even incompetence. But this one, pretty much at the start of her life in this world, is more to be pitied for her total lack of understanding on how that world truly works. The good news is that the more she is seen—and heard from—the more potential Democrat voters are left shaking their heads in disbelief. They may not be moved to run out and vote for a Republican but neither will they be dumb enough to give their votes to this strange young woman.
