The left is in full meltdown mode as President-elect Donald Trump continues revealing key appointments in his new administration, with Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) nominated as Attorney General. This particular selection has Democrats in an uproar. Gaetz’s fearless conservative stance makes him a force to be reckoned with, and Trump’s choice signals a significant shift in the Department of Justice.
Gaetz’s nomination follows Trump’s pick of Pete Hegseth for Secretary of Defense, which also sparked heated reactions. Hegseth, a decorated military veteran, faced a smear campaign from the usual suspects, with Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) calling him “unqualified.” Critics like Jim Acosta and Joy Reid failed to acknowledge Hegseth’s 20+ years of military experience, but when Gaetz’s nomination hit, things truly took a turn. Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) went so far as to demand that the Senate reject Gaetz, warning it could “affirm the worst potential abuses” of the DOJ.
First the Supreme Court granted a president immunity for weaponizing the Justice Department.
Now Donald Trump wants to appoint Matt Gaetz as AG?
Confirming him would mean affirming the worst potential abuses of DOJ.
He must be rejected by the Senate.

However, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) had a show-stopping response that left reporters stunned. When asked if he thought Gaetz would be confirmed by the Senate, Massie casually replied, “Doesn’t need to—recess! He’s the Attorney General! Suck it up!” Massie was referencing Trump’s potential use of recess appointments, a savvy political strategy to bypass Senate approval, a move that could secure Gaetz’s role regardless of Democrat resistance.

Recess appointments are nothing new; in fact, former Presidents Obama, Clinton, and Bush collectively made hundreds of such appointments to push through key nominations. This latest move by Trump underscores his commitment to staying two steps ahead of the opposition. Democrats are clearly not happy about it, but as Massie put it, they may just have to “suck it up.” Trump’s strategic maneuvers are already sending a message loud and clear: things are going to be very different at the DOJ.
